Presidential Election

Well, I am sure that all of us will be a little disheartened by today’s news. Even as I saw the early results, I still had a hope that in the end it would shake out. Even this morning I searched for some type of voter fraud case or something of the sort. Bottom line, God is sovereign. It is hard for my limited mind to understand why we have elected leaders who so severely differ from the Biblical standards we know. But my mind jumps to the lessons from Samuel, Kings and Chronicles. Are we in the same boat as Israel, a nation once abundantly blessed by God, who is and has already in many ways turned from God, and now we are in judgment. I am not as blind to believe that any one leader can change the hearts of the people, and McCain would have only been better in some ways than Obama. But to see a leader elected than who so surely departs from the Biblical standards in so many ways, one has to wonder what it means. I think it is hard to not be discouraged, anyone who loves this country is saddened by anything that weakens it. I know that this country is just that, and will surely fall one day, and it seems will fall from the inside, not from the outside. But in all of this I know like the death of a loved one, we must be both sad but assured of the Lord’s sovereignty. I don’t need to understand or even begin to agree. I can know that I am beyond naïve to believe that a country who dishonors the Lord will be blessed. I can know and I can rely on a Lord who promises no such blessing, but promises His love and a future with Him. I have read in many books that the United States will fall, and will lead to the European Union and some of the foreshadowed end time events. While I can’t wholeheartedly agree, I can say if the United States’ fall speeds the Lord coming, I welcome it. I know the Lord is sovereign and while I am saddened by the news of our President-Elect, I pray this event further drives me from any reliance in the world and only on my God. I also hope this further pushes the church of Jesus Christ to a more valiant effort towards God and His kingdom.
