An elder at church is teaching through Ecclesiastes and just as we began to go through Solomon's life, we are smacked in the face by both David's and Solomon's life. Aren't they two incredible examples of grace? David is the only man listed in all of scripture that is listed as a man after God's own heart. But he committed some of the most heinous sins in scripture. Solomon was given wisdom from God, in gigantic amounts, and yet he falls away from God repeatedly and in horrible ways. These stories I think bring up so much for us to learn from. I can map my life onto these stories, and try to see the areas I have the same short comings.
My first sinful response was honestly, well I have never had someone murdered or committed adultery! Am I wiser or better than them? But wait I have lusted after a woman and I have hated, so I guess I dropped the ball there. God has given me a redeemed heart and mind, but I daily sin in thought or deed. Man o' man how easily I pass over my transgressions when I consider others shortcomings. I am David and Solomon, every day I rise-I walk their steps, every time I choose to sin-I follow in their example. Praise God for His grace.
